There is a stretch between now and December 31 where a lot of CPR cards quietly become a problem. A renewal date you wrote down in January and forgot. A job offer with a January start date and a certification line in the paperwork. A clinical program that wants your card on file before the next term opens. A training budget at work that resets and does not roll over.
None of that is urgent until the calendar runs out, and then all of it is urgent at once. If you need an American Heart Association card before the end of the year, here is what to book and how fast it can be done near Lakemoor, McHenry, and Crystal Lake.
Figure Out Which Card You Actually Need
Before you look at dates, settle the course. The word CPR covers classes at two different levels, and booking the wrong one is the main reason people end up repeating a trip in a week they do not have one to spare.
- BLS Provider, $85, 90 minutes. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support course. This is the one named in most clinical and healthcare requirements. Book it if you have never held a BLS card, or if you are coming in without the online portion finished.
- BLS Renewal, $79, 45 to 60 minutes. For a current BLS card. Requires the HeartCode Part 1 online completion certificate before you arrive.
- Heartsaver CPR AED, $95, 2 to 3 hours. The non healthcare version, for workplaces, coaches, caregivers, and anyone whose paperwork just says CPR certified.
- Heartsaver First Aid, $95, 1 to 2 hours. First aid on its own, often paired with CPR when an employer asks for both.
- Every class ends with a two year AHA card issued at the end of class. You do not wait for it to arrive later.
Full descriptions are on the BLS page and the Heartsaver CPR AED page, and every course with its length and price is listed on the class prices page.
Check the Date on the Card You Already Have
AHA cards run two years. Most people find the expiration date only when somebody asks for a copy, which is usually the week it matters. Pull yours up now rather than in late December.
If it expires in the next few months, there is a real argument for handling it before the end of the year instead of waiting for the actual date. December and early January are when employer deadlines, new hire paperwork, and school terms all land in the same few weeks. Getting ahead of that costs you 45 minutes to 90 minutes now instead of a scramble later.
If you are going the renewal route, remember what the shorter class assumes. BLS Renewal is 45 to 60 minutes because the online coursework is already done. It expects a current BLS card and the HeartCode Part 1 completion certificate in hand when you arrive. If either of those is missing, BLS Provider at $85 and 90 minutes is the one to book, and it needs nothing from you beforehand.
If Your Employer Budget Resets
Plenty of offices, clinics, gyms, shops, and crews have a training line that resets at the start of the year. Whatever is left in it on December 31 is gone. If that describes where you work, certifying a group now makes more sense than letting people renew one at a time on their own money later.
Onsite group training comes to you anywhere in northern Illinois, with rates quoted per group. The whole team gets trained in one block without anybody driving anywhere, and everyone leaves with a card the same day. Start a quote on the onsite group training page, or send a headcount and a rough date and get a number back.
How Fast This Can Actually Happen
Classes run seven days a week, roughly 9:00am to 6:30pm, with weekend classes on request. There is no waiting list. You pick a time and that is your time.
That matters more at the end of the year than any other stretch, because the usual advice to book a few weeks out stops being useful when there are not a few weeks left. A BLS Renewal is 45 to 60 minutes. BLS Provider is 90 minutes. Heartsaver First Aid is 1 to 2 hours. These fit before a shift, after one, or on a day off between holiday plans.
If a start date or a deadline is closer than that, emergency scheduling is $150 and is often available the same day or the next day. It exists for exactly this situation, where the requirement turned up with no notice and the date is not negotiable.
